These foam blocks were passed out as part of a touchy-feely seminar I had to attend.  I finally found a use for them Roll Eyes  They're working well with the dowel poked into them but I haven't tried to attach then to a rod yet.

Here's a closeup of one of the blocks.  The skeleton fish has two threads that stay on the left for most of the weave; that curved metal thingy stuck into the left side of the block is a fish hook I'm using to help remind me of where I need to ensure the other threads don't close up the gap where the two threads need to fit when they eventually go back to the right.

I googled the blocks and found a place where they can be purchased
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

They sell in bulk; 96 for $5.25 but you could probably get on sample set for just the shipping charges.

Take those eight big bumps on top and make them a bunch of smaller bumps that match up to the sets of notches.  Number the bumps so you don't have to look at the sides to see which thread sets you're grabbing.  "V" notch the bottom to fit onto a blank and add some sort of rubber strap system.  It could work Cool
