Creating a new project

To create a new project....

1.   Determine the approximate finished weave size required by measuring your rod blank.
2.   Go to File >>> New Project or click on the "New Project" button   graphic
(Click "Next")

3.   Select the type of thread to be used for the "design" threads.  These are the individual threads that are arranged parallel to the axis of the rod and form the weave design.
(Click "Next")

4.   Select the type of thread to be used for the "wrap" thread.  This is the continuous thread that wraps around the rod and forms the background.

5.   Enter the diameter of your rod blank (in Millimeters) at the point where the weave will be positioned.

6.   Adjust the included angle setting to achieve the desired coverage of the rod by the weave.  PicToWeave will calculate the number of threads required to cover this portion of the circumference of the blank.

7.   Enter the desired weave height in millimeters (note that this measurement is taken around the circumference of the blank, not as a vertical measurement).
By default the height selected in step 6 will appear.

8.   If you will be designing your weave from an image, then the aspect ratio of the grid must match that of the image being used. The evaluation tool will show the correct width to use for a given height in order to maintain the correct aspect ratio for the image.
Launch the evaluation tool by clicking on the button.

9.   .Close the evaluation tool window.

10.    Enter the weave width (By default the figure calculated by the evaluation tool will be used).

PicToWeave will use these parameters to calculate how many threads are required in both axis to create a weave approximately the size required.
In order to maintain the aspect ratio as close as possible to the photograph or image from which the design is to be taken, PicToWeave will adjust the size of the grid cells according to the thread sizes selected.
Whilst it may seem easier to use grid cells of equal size regardless of the thread chosen, to do so will result in a finished weave that will appear squat or elongated depending on the size of the thread(s) used.
A weave done with size C or D wrap thread will be considerably wider than the same weave done with size A wrap thread.
The sizes quoted are based on published or otherwise determined sizes from various manufacturers.  They do not take into account "growth" from varying tension and/or spacing during the weave process.
The sizes shown may be adjusted and extra sizes may be added by the user by using the thread editing tool.
