Left List

Previous Top Next

A left list is a text based representation of the weave design that instructs the user on how to position each design thread during the weave.

It takes the following format.

Each turn of the fishing rod is depicted by a number followed by a colon.  e.g. 1:

Each thread which must be moved to the left is then depicted  by a comma separated list of number(s).

These numbers may be singular  e.g.  1,4,7,9
This example indicates that threads 1,4,7 & 9 must be shifted to the left, but threads 2,3,5,6 & 8 remain on the right.

The numbers may also be depicted as an array  e.g.  1-23
This example indicates that all threads from 1 to 23 inclusive must be moved to the left.

They may also be depicted by any combination of the two forms.
e.g.  1,4,6,8-23,29

In order to assist in multi-layer color change weaves, PicToWeave also makes use of the following symbols if the user has selected to use them.

If a thread must change colors/layer, even if it is part of a consecutive group of threads, it may be preceded by a copyright symbol.  e.g.  ©24
In the following example, the thread numbers which must be moved to the left is the same, but the left list differs to indicate the change of color on thread 14 in turn 2.  On turn 3 it reverts to the original depiction, because no changes of color take place.

1:   1-23,34,36
2:    1-13,©14,15-23,36
3:    1-23,34,36

Another change indicator used by PicToWeave is the Registered Trademark symbol ® and by striking out the text

This symbol is used to indicate a thread that must be dropped from the left side.
In the following example, thread 14 is dropped on turn 2, allowing the wrap thread to show in the weave.
In turn 3, thread 14 is reintroduced.
e.g.
1:   1-23,34,36
2:    1-13,®14,15-23,36
3:    1-23,34,36

The same thing could be represented by the following example, however it is easier to miss.
e.g.
1:   1-23,34,36
2:    1-13,15-23,36
3:    1-23,34,36

You may also choose to indicate when a thread (or threads) have been added to the weave.
This is indicated by the @ symbol.

e.g.
1: 1-23
2: 1-23,@25

Note, that only the last thread in the range will be indicated as having been added.  In the above example, threads 24 &25 may have been added.
