Stretch Factor

Previous Top Next

When creating a weave, the wrap thread will by necessity be under a certain amount of tension.  This tension causes it to become slightly smaller in diameter that the same sized thread if used as a design thread.

Due to this stretching, it is common practice to use a slightly larger diameter thread for the wrap thread than is chosen for the design thread(s).

The amount of stretch which occurs in an actual weave depends on many factors, such as
·    The amount of tension placed on the thread
·    They elasticity of the thread

These factors will vary from person to person, brand to brand and perhaps batch to batch.
To help counter this, PicToWeave allows you to set a "Stretch Factor".
This is the ratio between the design thread and wrap thread diameters when applied to a weave.  The default factor is 0.8
That is to say that in order to get a proportional weave, you must select a wrap thread that is 20% larger than your design thread.
