Thread Colors

Previous Top Next

The thread colors depicted in the color combo-box drop down lists are an approximation of threads marketed by various manufacturers.

They are not exact and will vary from one computer to another to a small degree and from one printer to another.
The colors depicted on the screen may be adjusted and the names displayed may be adjusted by manually altering the pic2weave.ini file.
WARNING!
Incorrect editing of this file may render the program unusable.

The pic2weave.ini file may be opened by a text editor such as windows notepad, however it is recommended that users only modify the file using the "Color Map" utility that ships with PicToWeave.

The color data is contained in the color section of the pic2weave.ini file.  The location of the file is dependant on the operating system on which you are running the application.

e.g.

[Thread Colors]

0001 Black Gudebrod=$000F0F0F
0002 White Gudebrod=$00FEFFFF
0441 Charcoal Gudebrod=$005F5F5F

The settings consist of two parts.  The first part is the name designation of the thread and is represented by everything to the left of the equals sign =
The text to the right of the equals sign controls the color that will be displayed on the computer screen.  PicToWeave uses hexadecimal numbers to depict colors.
This number may be altered to display any color available on a computer screen.
PicToWeave ships with a utility called "Color Map"
which may be used to convert the more common Red,Green,Blue (RGB) color data into hexadecimal numbers.

To use the utility, go to "FILE" > "OPEN FILE" to load the current list of thread color designations.

To add a color, simply type the RED,GREEN & BLUE values into the spaces provided, or select a color using the color dialog. Then enter the thread number and manufacturers name where provided.  Hint:  If the manufacturer does not assign a name to their colors, you may find it useful to do so to assist when reading the layer list.
Then click on the "Add Color" button.

To Modify a color, first select it in the list box, then make the alterations and hit the "Modify Color" button.

To delete a color from the list, select the color in the list box and hit the "Delete Color" button.

Please note, you must save all edits and re-start PicToWeave before they will take effect!

To save the modified file go to "FILE" > "SAVE FILE".
The list of threads will be automatically sorted alphanumerically based on the number/name combination given.
Please note that numbers are sorted as text from left to right.
e.g.
1009 would appear in the list before 205.

If you modify the shade of a color that is already in use in a weave pattern, the original shade will display when you re-open the pattern however it will not have a color name attached to it.  It will be displayed using the hexadecimal representation of it
e.g. $005F5F5F instead of 0441 Charcoal Gudebrod .
To replace it with your modified shade, use the "Exchange Colors" function.
